Justin,
It's Kevin in Los Angeles. Thanks for adding my new band, City Museum, to your MySpace(s).
I was thinking about bringing Harvey Wallbanger to the band... would you be ok with us playing it?
That said, I don't remember how on earth to play it. What are the chords?
Hope you're well,
k.

on march 18, 2005, dustin and I recorded eight tracks for what we're thinking is going to be the second zomo album. i'm not 100% sure it's going to be a zomo album because it has no aaron or zach or anyone else ever involved with zomo, but it sure felt like zomo. it remember back in 2002-2003 dustin and i were the only members of the band and we used to record shitty demos on my shitty computer at the zomo house. it was kind of like that, minus the shitty.
we mostly focused on recording my parts for the songs, and it all came out pretty well. all in all, i put in about 8-10 hours of recording that day. i'd say that i got everything done i needed to for the songs. the new songs were written quickly back in 2005, and the older tunes are ones that have been begging to be recorded.
next up, dustin will record his vocals, guitars, and drums for the album. this will be a quick session, as dustin plans to work in the same manner that i did. once this is all done, you have a new zomo album.
the songs recorded were as follows (some old some new, but there's a common theme linking them)... alberta, this is my life in an A frame house, my rosebottom girl, green box, never trust a car salesman with a cowboy hat, black little face, get it on down, and hello there bedfellow.
it sounds nothing like for the muses.
ps. you can view pics from the sessions in our myspace photos.

| we've been friends now for so many years |
[12 Jul 2005|06:32pm] |
after 1.5 years apart, dustin miller and justin hoenke hung out last week.
the event was extremely productive. not only was a major goal accomplished, that being a friendship being repaired, yet another neato goal was finished...the writing of four new songs that should probably end up as zomo material for a possible new album. the song titles are as follows:
walking on boards green box dinosaurs hello there, bedfellow
add the material that the band was working on before the hiatus in march 2004 and you almost have an album on your hands. no set date for rehersals/recordings, as everything is still up in the air. dustin still lives in new jersey, and aaron and justin live in northwest PA. things will be worked out over the following months. stay tuned.

| ever gooder (hee) news |
[13 Jul 2004|10:15pm] |
i got this email tonight from karl of weezer...
as for your album, im gonna send it to pat finn (my buddy and amorphous records partner) down in portland and see what he thinks. Personally, i'd love to put it out on amorphous. But, as a label, we have no $ and no distribution outside of our limited web presence, so aside from a small vanity press im not sure what we could do for you - though im not giving up on that idea, because i feel the album at least deserves to get out there, as you said. i have a few connections as far as sending to places to get reviewed, possibly played at college level, etc, but not much at this point, and as ever, my attention is badly divided amongst too many things. Ill think about it. Maybe i could turn a few guys on who could in turn direct you to the right place to go. I do actually have some limited funds to do a (quite) small press of the album if it came down to it - id just want to get my investment paid back out of sales - though i totally wouldnt get all cranky if i never got it all back. (we havent gotten to the 'profit zone' yet with anything on amorphous, but theres a good explanation - i dont do shows, pats organic mechanic hasnt played out for over a year, and we havent sent hardly anything to indie radio yet, so we only have ourselves to blame). anyway, its worth thinking about. ill see what pat thinks of it.
-karl
so that's good news.

| for the muses review |
[11 Jul 2004|09:09pm] |
here's the first real legitimate review of zomo's album "for the muses". this review comes from karl koch of weezer.
Hey buddy, sorry i didnt get back to you earlier -
dude, thank you so much for the zomo cds - in particular, your latest one(for the muses) - this is a really good album, bro! ive listened to it through several times, and, minor peaks and valleys aside, its remarkably consistent in quality - (high quality). i can put it on and it passes the real test - no urge to skip songs, and a real interest in "whats next". and for at least 2/3 of the songs, im really into it - i cant 'distract myself' while its playng, you know what i mean? This is a better album, IMO, than a lot of "respected" indie/alternative type albums of the last few years basically because im less likely to skip a song or get distracted. the 'compelling' factor, i guess.. well, congrats on yanking a winner out of the flames of the chaos that is independently recoprding an album!
what are your plans for this thing?
-karl
and remember, if you'd like a copy of this album just email me at zomorock@yahoo.com

| the first zomo album |
[11 May 2004|10:57pm] |
i have been working hard on putting something together to represent the first phase of zomo (late 2001-mid 2003) and tonight i have finished what i consider to be the closest thing this band will ever come to having a first album. below you will find the tracklisting, album information, and liner notes.
1. pine away 2. alberta 3. upon my sleeve i wear this badge 4. giraffe 5. pulling my strings 6. quinsy polyps 7. tooramalay 8. little paradise 9. blanket on our heart 10. the bells 11. pine away (reprise)
zomo written by justin hoenke produced by zomo selected tracks engineered by adam watt
recorded 2001-2003 at various locations in edinboro, girard, and erie pennsylvania
-tracks 1, 2, 5 recorded at 10 Gwynne, 102 Stonehaven Drive sometime in 2002-2003 vocals, guitars: justin hoenke drums, percussion, vocals: dustin miller
-tracks 3, 7, 8, 10 recorded at AmNot Recordings, Girard PA from late 2001-mid 2003 vocals, guitar: justin hoenke guitar, vocals (on track 3): zach watt bass (on track 3): atom watt drums (on tracks 3 and 11): dustin miller
-track 4 recorded live at the Boro Bar by Adam Watt edinboro, PA November 2002 vocals, guitar: justin hoenke guitar, vocals: zach watt drums: dustin miller bass: rob felsberg
-tracks 6, 9, 11 recorded at home by Justin Hoenke in edinboro and pittsburgh PA 2002-2003 vocals, guitar, keyboards: justin hoenke
the story of the creation of the first zomo album could fill an entire textbook. cults and study groups could be dedicated to figuring out just what the hell went on with zomo during late 2001-mid 2003. i’ll try to sum up what went on here in these liner notes as best as i can, and only from my point of view (since that’s all i have).
the initial plan was to record 12 songs with atom watt, 6 written by myself and the other 6 written by zach watt. most of the songs are not included on this album you hear because their recordings were nowhere near complete. sessions for this album, originally titled “waiting for the green” began in late 2001 with myself laying down basic tracks for the rest of the band to add onto. when zach left the band in late 2001/early 2002 i added more songs in my repitiore to fill in for zach’s song. this is when songs such as “upon my sleeve i wear this badge” were added to the zomo catalogue.
the recording sessions went on and on with little or no progress being made. i recall overdubbing the same guitar lines to certain songs 10-20 times in order to get the “right feel and sound”. looking back on it i guess we were just all a little bit scared and naive. we really didn’t know what we were doing.
in the meantime, lineup changes were so frequent that i could hardly remember who i was playing shows with. for awhile, alan dean was our bass player, and then he wasn’t. rob felsberg was our steady bass player in late 2002 but then one day he just decided he didn’t want to do it anymore. atom watt then was the next in line for the bass player role. zach was in the band for most of this, but sometimes left for personal and physical reasons. the core of zomo at this point was myself and dustin miller.
so...struggling with our inability to complete the album and find permanent members that would stick in the band we found other ways to express our creativity. i was writing tons of new songs and pushing my artistic boundaries forward at this point, and i always wanted to record newer songs rather than work on what we had started. the crude, yet honest recordings of “pine away”, “pulling my strings”, “alberta”, and others on this album represent my pulling away from the idea of “waiting for the green” as an album and towards a fresh start for zomo. i had always hoped and dreamed that we would finish this album. i have always wanted to hear “the bells” with vocals, but i guess that was never meant to be. what you have here is a glimpse of what could’ve been if we could’ve just got things together. maybe someday “waiting for the green” will be complete, but for now this is the closest thing you’ll get.
-justin hoenke, may 2004

yes. zomo is still together in some form or another. yesterday i (justin) recorded all the guitars and vocals to a new song called "helium". some of you may remember it as one of the new songs we played at our last show with the mid 2003-early 2004 lineup (justin, dustin, aaron).
the recording now is in the hands of mr. aaron dobler and mr. aaron davis. they will add whatever the song needs. once it is completed, you will be able to find it here...
zomo MP3's (please click this link)
soon that site will have 3 tracks from the "for the muses" album.
if anyone is interested in interviewing us, writing an article about us, or reviewing "for the muses" please contact me at zomorock@yahoo.com

[28 Feb 2004|01:30am] |
so as aaron posted just before me tonight concerning the situation in zomo and i'd like to put down my thoughts as well...
zomo is at a crossroads and i don't know what else to say about it. some things have happened that stemmed from personal situations and that is pretty much all you need to know. it is also my personal belief that the band was just physically and mentally worn out after "for the muses" was recorded. a lot was put into that record and it took a lot out of me. i can't speak on behalf of the other members of the band. as for the personal problems, we're working them out.
i will not let this situation destroy zomo.
i love zomo, i love aaron, and i love dustin so much that i would never let anything get in the way of that. but sometimes things come up that cause some tension and they're kind of hard to work out. things take time.
there is no definite word on who is still in the band and who is not. no one has been kicked out, no one has been fired, etc etc etc. i can honestly say that i am still very much a part of this musical project. i have never given up on this band all the other times it has almost fallen apart, and certainly this will not be our last stand. zomo will go on.
however, right now it is best for zomo to take an extended hiatus. some personal things need to settled within each of our souls, and some other musical projects need to flourish at the time. zomo has been going strong despite all the setbacks in the past three years, and now that we've finished our album it is best to sit back, do some other things, and let the next batch of songs come to us without frustration.
the "for the muses" album will be released. it may not be the shiny beautiful package most albums come in but it will be true to the theme of the album. right now the cover art and other details are being worked out. once we have enough money the CD will be pressed and made availiable through our website (www.zomo.net) which is still in the works at the moment. the album and the website will be made public at around the same time.
we will all be in touch soon..
-justin

| hey zomo fans!!! all is not yet revealed!!! |
[27 Feb 2004|08:49pm] |
it looks pretty official that the dustin quit zomo. he's the drummer. it also looks like my makeshift label is putting out the zomo cd any way. so this spring. there are about 5 lost earth lock cd's coming out. a 2 cd retrospect of noise i've done and the zomo cd. not bad. i'm in the process of setting up the basement for the project that seems to be forming out of lost earth lock and zomo meeting a very cool someone. i have no expectations any more. but if you want to see what is going on come to the hangout in edinboro on saturday march 6th and check out the first time lost earth lock has combined all the elements of noise, tight programming and absolutely just winging it. i have no idea when we hit the stage i just know i'll be glad to see justin on stage with me still despite all this change. this new chapter going to be intersting. i promise. love your little astronaut, aaron

i just found these great sound files of dustin and i speaking gibberish into the microphone. the first file is normal and the second one is the whole entire conversation backwards.
i have this great idea that when we release the album we release this along with it and say this is an interview disc with the band where they discuss the album. i think the music speaks for itself and this would be cool to send out to make people see that...
